Love...Monday Moment

When you think of February, Valentine's Day might come to mind and then that might lead you to the topic of LOVE. Awe, the topic of love! Let me share with you a few of my loves, apart from the obvious God, husband, kids, parents, family and friends.

I love peace and quiet and the smell of coffee (coffee breath not as much:)).
I love being caught up with my household chores.
I love watching movies with my kids on the couch.
I love the little moments I get with my kids one-on-one at bed time.
I love crossing things off my list (I'm a big list person...got that from my Dad:)).
I love Spring (hurry up!).
I love all the baby animals in the spring.
I love the feeling after a good workout or run (not so much the I'm dying feeling in the middle).
I love to laugh and watch comedy (I about rolled out my chair the other night laughing at the movie Tommy Boy...I'm sure that dates me for the younger generation:)).
And, last but NOT least, I love sharing special moments with others through my photography! The families I photograph make this job such a joy! THANK YOU:)

What are some of your loves? I hope you continue to find LOVE all around you throughout the year, whether you are single or married, and not just on Valentine's Day!

I will leave you with a short verse and a little video I made on Valentine's Day:)

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

The W Family...North Central KS Family Photographer

It was a windy day but we found shelter in a...well, a shelter belt:) And, then we ventured out on top of a hill for a few evening silhouette shots and we might have created my favorite silhouette to-date! Every day is a new opportunity:) I'm so glad that others put their faith in me to capture their loved ones but before I go all sentimental on you, here are my favorites from the evening! A little side note...I have a few more openings for the summer and I'm starting to schedule fall sessions. The F kids...Sylvan Grove KS Child Photographer

We had a beautiful morning for our session in downtown Sylvan Grove. Little brother was having a hard day but we managed to squeak out a few smiles. Everybody has a day like that now and then, even little ones:) I can't wait to shoot another session down there, there are so many cool little spots! Thanks for looking:)

If your walls could talk...

So you know you want great pictures of your family, but then what? What is the end game? What are you going to do with them and where will you keep them? Will you buy the disk and file it away for safe keeping? Or, will you print them and share small prints with family and friends? Or, will you print your favorites big and hang them on the wall to enjoy every time you walk by them? There is something positive to be said about all of those options, but from my own personal experience, I get more daily enjoyment from the images that I print large and put on my walls! There are those times that I get lost in cleaning and organizing (this is a rare occurrence) and start reminiscing through old photo boxes. Those times are great but the pictures I see the most often, I hold near and dear to my heart. You might say, "Of course you are going to encourage clients to print their images big and hang them on the wall, you are a photographer!" This is a true statement, I am a photographer, and I do love seeing my work displayed in my client's homes, it tells me that they like what I created. But, that is not the reason I wanted to write this post today, not to sell larger prints, but to share the feeling I get seeing my images making a statement on my walls! And, the older the images get, the more dear they are to me because I know I cannot turn that pre-teen girl back into that toddler that loved to cuddle and read books with me. And, I know that this little boy that loves hugs and kisses from his Momma now, will crawl off my lap for good in a few short years (even though the days may seem long now, I will look back and probably see that the years were short). Here are a few of the examples from my home and I cannot wait to fill our new home with more!

 "The Beach"
I took my girls to a river beach one September day and we played in the sun. It was hot that day and M didn't like the hot sand on her feet at first but then settled in and started to have fun. Her older sister loved dancing and daydreaming and I captured those moments that day. I remember being there with my Mom and the trek we made through the woods to get to this little gem of a spot. My girls still ask when we can go back to the "beach"!

"My Babies"
A snapshot in time when our little boy was just days old. I remember taking this photo like it was yesterday. I laid our white comforter on the floor in front of our big living room window and had the girls prepped to lay still while I settled baby brother in between them. They were SO good, I think I promised candy if they were still and patient. I have loved this shot since and I bought a 20x30 canvas gallery wrap that I hung in our bedroom. I think I could have gone even bigger and someday I will probably wish I had three (one to give to each child).

"Tea Party"
A friend of mine put together the cutest little play-date for several families with girls. We had a ball playing tea! And, I love Pinterest as much as the next girl and used this old window to display a collage of images from the tea party in my kitchen. I measured the window panes and made one large template in photoshop to print the image and backed it so it could just be nailed to the back of the window...worked great! It has turned into a favorite piece of mine for sure!

You get the picture, I could go on and on about me, but this isn't about me...it is about you! I hope you think about what you want your walls to say and how you want them to tell YOUR story and the love you have for your family and babies.

It can be overwhelming after your session when you have a gallery of images staring you in the face and you aren't sure what to do with them. I am here to help and I am excited to say that I have a nifty little tool that will help you to visualize your images on your walls to scale. I can take a picture of the wall you are wanting to put your display on or I can use a stock wall background to show you a grouping of your images. I can show your images in frames, ornate frames, with mat or without, or as a canvas. Any way you choose, you will be able to visualize the images together (if you choose several) and you can see how large it will look in your space.

Here is an 24x36 canvas compared to an 8x10 canvas on the same wall:

I can't wait to help you build your own wall collection and let your walls tell your story. See you soon!
